Can Speed Cameras Make A Difference?
Research from around the world demonstrates that speed cameras make roads safer. They reduce traffic crashes, casualties, and fatalities. Some highlights include: GET A QUOTE A review of speed camera evaluations by Cochrane Library including 35 studies from around the world found that average speeds were always reduced when speed cameras were installed. Most countries reporting a 10-35% reduction. The number of crashes and related injuries decreased in all 35 of the above studies as well. The Cochrane review suggested that “outcomes across all studies show that speed cameras are a worthwhile intervention for reducing the number of road traffic injuries and deaths.” A study published in the British Medical Journal found reductions up to 69% for collisions, up to 65% for injuries, and up to 71% for deaths in the immediate vicinity of speed cameras.
